CC Comrades Corner - Andrew Dollenberg

Boring, but important Comrades details

Since you are now tapering, and have so much available time on your hands, why not look at the route, maps and finer planning details?

Here is a map of the finish area for the 2013 Comrades Marathon.

For those that have run the 'up' before, take note of the slight changes as you approach The Oval. Most importantly, take note of the warning for speed bumps in the 'last mile' going down Princess Margaret Drive. The last thing you want to do at this stage is trip and fall.

I've also attached a map of the Comrades route (thanks Chrisjan for this) which can be downloaded here. It is quite large, so don't try to print it unless you own a large scale plotter. To view it online, go to http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/30731118/You may find this useful in studying the route, and also for your supporters to figure out the best place to meet you along the side of the road.

And if you want to make it a little easier for your family and supporters, pass them this detail so they can figure out access and parking in order to meet you on time and in a good mood, whether along the route or at the finish.

Lastly, and for the techno junkies that love this kind of stuff, here (go to file, download) is also a Googlemap .kmz file that you can check out on Google Earth. It shows the full details of the route, refreshment stations, physio stations, key landmarks, and anything else you might be able to see from a satellite 520km above earth.

Keep well, keep healthy and take it easy now.

Regards,
Andrew.
