CC Comrades Corner - The Unogwaja Challenge

I'm sure many of you have heard of the Unogwaja Challenge and maybe even watched their web series last year. For those that haven't I want to share their story as it is truly inspirational, especially if you have participated in the Comrades Marathon or plan to do so this year.

What is Unogwaja

”This 10 day cycle from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg to run the Comrades Marathon on day 11 is a journey of the heart inspired by the life of Phil Masterton-Smith who in 1933 couldn’t afford the train fare from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg so he cycled up instead and finished 10th in the race. He died in World War Two in 1942. His nickname was “Unogwaja” meaning hare in Zulu and his legacy lives on in the Unogwaja Challenge. Wherever you go, go with your heart “  - John McInroy
The Comrades Marathon Association is proud to be associated with the Unogwaja 2013 Challenge.  The Unogwaja team show the true spirit of Comrades by their display of camaraderie, passion, courage and determination, while remembering the important history and tradition behind our great event. They have shown others that they can follow their dreams, and that anything is possible if you dare to try.

DOING IT FOR CHARITY

Team Unogwaja are passionate about giving back, making a difference in other people’s lives and spreading “gees” along their journey.   Every pedal and step towards the finish line of Comrades Marathon on 2nd June will be in support of Charity.   Help them to help others – every rand donated will go directly towards their chosen charities.
