We took off on Friday afternoon in good spirits, praying for better weather than the previous year. Those of you who were there will remember taking off in heavy rains and surrounded by thunder and lightning. When we arrived in Piet Retief it was raining, so we were quite worried about what was waiting for us the next morning. Off course the people at the guest house thought that we had brought the weather with us from Nelspruit.
Thankfully we woke up to clear skies and lovely cool weather. Perfect running conditions.
We were again treated to beautiful views, waterpoints stocked with food, fruit, cold water and a variety of cooldrinks and good old Piet Retief hospitality. It is such an amazing and beautiful race. This was the fourth year for me travelling to Piet Retief and it is definitely a fixed race on my running calender.
Our runners did very well with Petro Buckingham being the 3rd lady overall in the marathon.
A big thank you goes out to the Assegaai marathon club and their sponsors for again hosting a spectacular marathon. And also a big thanks to the crowd that travelled to Piet Retief this year for making it such a great and fun trip. Another one that we will all remember fondly and will make us return year after year. Hopefully with a few more LVCC members in tow.
