Dis hoe dit is…
I would like to start off by wishing our Club Captain Paul all the best as he recovers from his surgery. We hope that you are back on the road in no time Paul!
Comrades 2014 is now something of the past. Not having run last year, I forgot what a challenge this race is! I want to congratulate all the finishers, especially novices, back to back achievers - just all medal winners. Well done to each and every one of you. Those who couldn’t make it this year, well, don’t give up!
It was a wonderful turnout at La Spiaggia in Umhlanga on Monday morning. Thanks to everyone that attended and shared your comrade day’s stories. I would also like to thank all the supporters and families for their fantastic effort over the weekend. Thanks very much!
You will see that our aches and pains gathering is scheduled for Saturday 14th of June. Come along and enjoy the afternoon with us at LVCC.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the communications portfolio for the fantastic effort put into our social media profile. It really looks great and received many compliments. I hope all our club members take advantage of staying up to date via these channels.
Huge thanks especially to Toy for consistent enthusiastic effort especially leading up to Comrades! Thanks to all our blog contributions over the past couple of months. New contributors always welcome!
We have a couple of races approaching where we as a club will need help to host again. The HALLS run will take place on 12th of July. Please let the club know if you are able to assist on the day. Please note that NEDBANK LVCC members will not be allowed to run on this day. We will need the usual marshals and helpers at the race finish. There will be a new route this year and we would like to see if we can organize a post run on Sunday morning the 13th.
Time trials will continue as usual and will start 17:15 at LVCC every Thursday. Even if you don’t want to run, come to the club and have a drink or two with your fellow runners.
Good luck to those representing our province at the cross country champs in Pretoria this weekend.
To the rest of you don’t go too deep into winter hibernation. Rest, recover and then keep up the running and stay healthy.
See you on the road!
Steve

I would to thank again the management on behalf of myself and William with regards to the assistance we received from the club.
On 17 May we went to run 10km race @ Polokwane Mayor’s Race. Everything was well organized. It was a flat race and we went there to try and improve our personal best times.
Unfortunately it was a bad day at the office for me. I was with the leading group up until 5km and from 6km I felt that my body wasn’t responding. All my energy was gone and William caught up to me at the 6.6km mark. We pushed together up until 7km when I told him “man I struggling now you can go, I don't want to hold you back”.
It was great challenge for us as it was a well-paying race. The field consisted of all the top elite athletes from Nedbank and other teams from all over. The race was won by Kgosi Tsosan, a fellow Nedbank athlete from Pretoria, in a time of 30: 10 and William finished in 7th place in a time of 31:41. I finished 11th but unfortunately there was only prize money for the top 10!!!!
Thanks to the club and its management for all the support. We really appreciate everything and good luck to everyone running the Comrades Marathon.
We know you guys will do well!

Captain's Corner
By Paul Norman
As I’m writing this from my recovery bed after my hernia operation, I have time to reflect how quickly time goes by, for many of us who went to Comrades it's hard to believe it's over for this year.
We had some awesome performances, some brave battles, some hic-ups along the way & some reminders that Comrades is a brutal race that shows no mercy.
I’m a bit drugged up so I’m not going to try pin point individual results. To all of you who lined up at the start well done, that is an achievement on its own, congrats to those who got their wanted time, for the everyone one else remember there is always next year.
A huge thank you to our club table volunteers, Keith, Lawrence, Beth & Janine I’m sure every runner while vouch
for how important you are on the day, thank you very much.
For those taking time off for recovery, enjoy it, recovery is as important as the hard training you put in.
Thanks to Toy for manning the fort while we were away & for helping me with Captain's duties while I’m on recovery.
Take care to all of you & see you out & about.

Selati Race Report
By Toy Dupper
The Selati "Marathon¨, may in actual fact only consist of a half marathon, 10 km and some fun runs but deserves that title thanks to its sheer size in logistics, attendance and sponsorship.
It certainly is one of the biggest races in our region and the Onderberg really makes up for its lack of races with this one. (Please bring Kaftan & Boulders back!)
Nedbank LVCC was well represented with our top athletes and in-form Comrades runners all on the start line. I spotted William on the last bit of his 10 km flight and it was pretty damn impressive. He smoked his competitors in the 10 km race and won in 30:55. Our ladies also stepped up to the plate with an overall win for Nonthokozo and junior win for Madri. Well done to Fanie on his 40:55 PB that could have been well under 40 if he didn't take the wrong turn halfway through the race.
Well done to Lovers and Ntuthuko who placed 6th and 7th respectively in the half marathon ¡V in the prize money I believe. Unfortunately Folavio had a bad race (he is human after all!) and old shoe issues. Keep fighting Folavio! I'm sure your new Nike Flyknit Racers won't let you down. Also well done to Cornelia on her 1st place in the Junior category.
I managed to run a PB but I didn't get close to a low-flying Adriaan who ran a blistering 1:27:27. Good enough for a silver medal in 36th position.
Thank you to all our runners for attending the race, despite the problems with stop and go's on the N4.
Hats off to Deon Valks and the Onderberg Athletics Club for an extremely well organised event and thank you to Selati for sponsoring this awesome race year after year.
